Purpose of the app:

As I am an international student in Brisbane, I do hope my app can provide convenience to visitors, making them feel free in Brisbane. Therefore, my mobile app is designed for tourists who are willing to have a basic understanding of Brisbane. I chose I Phone as my target device, as it is widely used around the world. What is more important is that I Phone is turning to be more and more popular among young people, which would be better used to attract my primary audience.

Target Audience

Primary audience:

Basically, my app is considered to be developed covering all age groups. But my Primary audience would be young tourists. The characters of my target audience are obviously to be seen. They are young, curious, appealing to personality and full of energy. Most of the youth prefer to enjoy trips in their free time. “Backpacks” is popular among young people.

Secondary audience:

My secondary audience would be all visitors in Brisbane, especially for the free walker who enjoy making travel planning by themselves.  

Desing Process:

Research:

I have done quiet much research before moving to build my own mobile app. It is easy to find a bunch of tourist websites online. Unfortunately, I haven’t seen many sites developing particular mobile service to customs. Mobile would be a pretty convenient way for tourists to abstain timely information.   

Functions or Style:

I really love simple design style. Also, personally, I believe the functions would be more important than style for users.  But Because my strong point is interface design and I do not have much time to export the coding of functions for my Mobile device.  Therefore, I decide to focus on the inter face  rather than functions.

My final mockups:

During the process of my design work, I do realize my insufficient knowledge of flash, especially action scripts. I really want to develop my work further,  But the limited knowledge block my way. As shown in the final mockups, I planned to do a scale button to make audience can zoom in and zoom out the animation easily. Unfortunately, I cannot make it finally.

Case scenario

For this design, I don’t have specific target audience. I think all people may access to this data as the swine flu is global issue and it is seems to be considerate by the majority of people on the earth. Furthermore, the flash work can make people get rid of boring to obtain the desired data source. The moved animation can create something fun to draw people attention to the data. Also, the data is sorted and make it possible for people to compare useful information. People can also focus on the specific data they want easily.

Concept:

Color:

Variously bright colors are utilized to rich the content of my flash animation as well as make my flash look fun and interesting.

Shape:

The screen of the flash is basically made up by a various range of simple geometric shapes. Circle is easily seen in my design. I try to use circles to balance and organize my picture composition. Circle is symmetrical shape embodying peaceful, harmonious and unity. When people see pigs moving around the circle, it is easy for them associate the circle with “earth”. The disaster of swine flu is the world’s problem. I do hope people over the world can cooperate together to desist this disease.

Why I choose swine flu

When I choose the topic of my design, I think I am really influenced by the project I did last semester with other group mates. We were asked to design an interactive game in order to encourage people eating healthily without too much meat. One of my group mate had designed a wonderful logo with the image of pig. Therefore, while I get data of swine flu, I cannot help thinking of “pigs”. On the other, in 2008, China has suffered a serious disaster and thousands people were dead for SARS. The increasing economic is negatively affected by this unexpected disease. A plenty of people were unemployed and students had to stay at home as schools were chose. I do see the harm and inconvenience for society brought by flu. Therefore, I hope this design can keep people’s eyes on this isuue.
